However, breast cancer in men does exist even though it is quite rare. It is reported that only 1 percent of the people suffering from breast cancer are actually men. The main reason why people do not think that male breast cancer actually exists is because men don’t have breasts. However, they do have breast tissue. This breast tissue in men normally stays small and flat. Some men develop what look like medium or large breasts. In actual fact, this is just fat collection as the man will more than likely be unfit and overweight. Some men do also grow actual breasts as a result of medication or unusually high hormone levels within the body. There are a few factors to consider when looking at male breast cancer. Those factors are as follows and may vary from person to person. It is important to remember when looking at the factors that because the chance of getting breast cancer in males is low, there haven’t been a lot of studies looking into male breast cancer. * Aging – Getting older can be just a bigger factor as it is for women developing breast cancer. The usual age when men are diagnosed with breast cancer is around the mid 60’s. * Higher estrogens levels than normal can be a factor for men developing breast cancer. If a man is taking hormone medication for some reason, he may begin to develop breasts. As a result, he may be more at risk of developing breast cancer. * Being obese or overweight increases the body’s production of estrogens levels within a male. This then makes them more at risk of getting breast cancer. * It can be genetically passed on from male to male in the family. If there is a history of breast cancer within other males in the same family, there is much more chance of developing it later on in life. * If the male has had radiation treatment to treat such diseases like Hodgkin’s disease can increase a man risk of getting breast cancer. This is especially true if the radiation treatment was given to the patient before they turned thirty years of age. Symptoms in male breast cancer are not unlike what women get when they develop breast cancer. While breast cancer in men is still fairly uncommon, it does seem to be on the rise. This could be contributed to the growing problem of people’s waistlines all across the world. Men developing male breast cancer may experience a lump or bump in the breast, underarm or collarbone area, painful nipples, discharging nipples, inverted nipples and sores around the nipple area.Just because men sometimes develop breasts, doesn’t necessarily mean that they will go on to develop breast cancer. </p>

The media is out of control.How many times did we cringe when the media hounded Renee Zellweger for gaining weight for her role as Bridget Jones (she looked perfectly normal to us). The sad truth is that many women have no idea what the average female height and weight is anymore.So, once and for all, let’s get our facts straight, shall we? Mathematically speaking, the exact average of all the women in America compiled from data and statistics, is:• Height: 63.8&#8243; (a little more than 5’3?)• Weight: 163 lbs• Waist: 36.5&#8243;If you were to convert that into today’s clothing sizes it’s a mess. With a height of 5’3&#8243;, you’d be shopping in the Misses Petite section and the largest size runs two inches smaller around the waist than the average! You’d have to go to between a size 18 and a size 20 in the regular Misses department.Not to mention that sizes differ from label to label &#8211; and that sizes have gradually shifted up over the years. What used to be a size 12 is now a size 6; a dress from 20 years ago is two inches smaller around the waist than it is now.No wonder women are confused!But, what does &#8220;average&#8221; mean? According to some weight charts, a woman who is 5’3&#8243; should be 133 pounds. So, &#8220;average weight&#8221; doesn’t mean &#8220;ideal weight.&#8221; It’s a fact of life of American life today.The truth is that while the median ideal weight is 133 pounds, the ideal weight can be anywhere from 110 to 145 pounds, and that’s a pretty wide gap!Does the &#8220;average&#8221; woman then need to drop 15 pounds from her burdened frame? Thirty pounds? Over fifty pounds? Honestly, it just depends on the individual.A woman might be 5’3&#8243; and 163 pounds, and look extremely overweight. She might look like she could stand to lose a pound or two, however 50 pounds might seem like a reach. The same holds true for someone at the other end of the spectrum &#8211; at 110 pounds, she might look completely average to you and I, or she might look like she could use a sandwich, with extra mayo.What is least talked about and most important is how you feel about yourself. If you’re obese, that tends to complicate your health, and it can be psychologically crippling. For those women who are average female height and weight, it’s about what you see when you look in the mirror. If you like what you see &#8211; if you think you are the cat’s meow &#8211; then &#8220;you go girl&#8221;! Stay the way you are, and just make sure you are healthy, happy, and fit. But if you actively avoid mirrors and shred any picture with you in it because you feel like a fat cow, then make a promise to yourself to do what needs to be done to be happy. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The epidemic of child obesity in America seems to have never been more prevalent than it is today. Even with all of the media attention on the increase in weight and the decline of activity of children all across our country, not enough seems to be happening to make the differences that the next generation needs to see. What is even more frightening is that we don’t need the television or obesity statistics to know that the problem isn’t going away; we can see it in our neighborhoods and sometimes in our own households. </p>
<p>There is hope. Education is key; education for parents, teachers, and the community, but also education for the kids. The more we all know, the easier it will be to create a change. </p>
<p>In working with men, women, and children as a Personal Trainer, Group Exercise Instructor, and Youth Sports Instructor over the past decade, I have seen the highs and the lows of fitness in America. Having been witness to some of those lows, I can still see a light at the end of the tunnel, but what’s more important is that the children see that light. </p>
<p>Know what? They do. </p>
<p>So, what can we do as individuals to start making a difference in the lives of children that may be suffering from childhood obesity? </p>
<p>Here are 4 Helpful Hints for Fighting Child Obesity in America </p>
<p>Be Supportive: When we least expect it, children are listening. Whether they seem mesmerized or distracted by the television, their iPods, or their cell phones our words, both positive and negative, stick. They will begin to model or try to become what they think you think of them. </p>
<p>If your consistent message is “you are overweight and all you do is sit in front of the TV all day”, then that is what they will eventually emulate. Positive reinforcement like, “You looked so fast running from the school bus to the front door today. I bet that’s why you’re doing so well in soccer,” is a great way to stimulate the activity you would like to see more of. </p>
<p>Lead by Example: My parents have always been my greatest heroes. Some of my favorite childhood memories were of playing baseball and soccer in the front yard, basketball in the driveway, or just racing my Mom and Dad up and down the street. It didn’t occur to me until years later how much of an impact that had on me growing up and is probably part of the reason that I’m writing this today. Thanks Mom and Dad! </p>
<p>Talk about It: Kids and adults browse through magazines, read newspapers, and watch the television daily. Look for your coaching opportunities. If a news clip comes on that focuses on child obesity in America, ask your kids for their thoughts. You may be surprised to find that their knowledge of the subject matter is more detailed than you originally thought. What’s even better? They may have some great ideas on stopping childhood obesity. </p>
<p>Never Stop Learning: If you have found this site, then you are already on the right track and it is obvious that you care about making a difference. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With all the lotions, potions and prescriptive concoctions that focus on reviving, restoring, maintaining a youthful appearance there is nothing that can compete with the youthful results of regular exercise. When it comes to washing away the blues, regular exercise slams other methods on results obtained and does not even carry the risk of a negative side effect.<br />
While most of us would love to solve all of our problems with a quick fix solution that the drug industry loves to accommodate us all with, the truth is that getting up and moving regularly provides a better result than any lotion, potion or prescriptive concoction known to man when it comes to maintaining a youthful appearance or keeping the blues at bay. Even recreational drugs cannot compete with the feel good effects of regular exercise.<br />
Add to those benefits the significant health effects of regular exercise including avoiding type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, arthritis, certain cancers including colon cancer and the need for regular exercise becomes a no brainer. With all of those benefits it would seem logical that everyone in our society would be moving regularly and enjoying those many very real indisputable advantages for health and well being.<br />
Sadly, the couch potatoes are winning and consequently the health statistics on the overall population is steadily declining. Presently in the U.S. nearly 60 million Americans are considered obese. More than 108 million adults are either obese or overweight. That means roughly 3 out of 5 Americans carry an unhealthy amount of excess weight.<br />
In the meantime, the educational system continues to eliminate time for regular physical fitness while the youth in this country, and for the first time in history, are contracting medical conditions once only afflicting older adults as a result of issues related to weight.<br />
If you are reading this and you have not been engaging in regular physical activity ask yourself why not? You have the time, just cut out one and a half hour of the 4 hours that most people spend watching T.V. each night or get up one half hour earlier than you are used to. If you feel too tired it is because you are not getting regular exercise.<br />
There is no excuse for allowing yourself to feel less happy, less energetic, less confident or less anxious. There is no excuse for you allowing your body to go without that essential regular activity that it DOES NEED! Just because you feel you have been getting away with it so far the facts and health statistics in the US prove that you are living under a false belief.<br />
The negative effects of not engaging in regular physical activities are going to catch up with you in time. You really are not getting away with anything and not engaging in regular exercise is not harmless. The facts are clear that our bodies require regular exercise and when you do not give your body what it requires, just like food and water, there is a consequence and it is not a good one.<br />
Stop living in denial and stop pretending it does not matter. You know you want the results of regular exercise and you can have those results, all of them. The best news is it will not cost you a dime because you can take care of that need just by taking a walk or doing calisthenic type exercises in your living room. If you do not know what to do just do a general search on any engine with the word CALISTHENIC and there are an abundance of sites ready to help you out.<br />
Potions, lotions and prescriptive concoctions have their place but whatever your plan make sure you are engaging in regular exercise because you will not need many or maybe even not any, potions, lotions or prescriptive concoctions to realize the fountain of youth or cure those blues if you do. </p>

As dieters had trouble with low-fat plans, they searched for a new solution and Dr. Atkins&#8217; New Diet Revolution book found a new audience. A lot of people have jumped on the Atkins bandwagon and there has been a lot of hype as a result. But what are the basic principles of the Atkins diet? The Atkins diet is based on a theory of why we get fat. According to Dr. Atkins, the over-consumption of carbohydrates and simple sugars leads to weight gain. The way your body processes the carbohydrates you eat have more to do with your waistline than the amount of fat or calories that you consume. In his book, Atkins outlines a phenomenon called &#8220;insulin resistance.&#8221; He theorizes that many overweight people have cells that do not work correctly. When you eat excess carbohydrates and sugar, your body notices that sugar levels are elevated. Insulin is released from the pancreas in order to store sugar as glycogen in the liver and muscle cells for extra energy later on. However, your body can only store so much glycogen at once. As soon as your body reaches its limit for glycogen storage, the excess carbohydrates are stored as fat. This happens to everyone who eats too many carbohydrates. However, insulin resistant individuals have an even harder time of using and storing excess carbohydrates. The more insulin that your body is exposed to, the more resistant it becomes. Overtime, the pancreas releases more insulin and cells become insulin resistant. The cells are trying to protect themselves from the toxic effects of high insulin. They create less glycogen and more fat. As a result, insulin resistant individuals gain extra weight. The carbohydrates get converted into fat instead of energy. Other side effects include fatigue, brain &#8220;fog&#8221; (the inability to focus, poor memory, loss of creativity), low blood sugar (which can leads to hypoglycemia), intestinal bloating, sleepiness, depression and increased blood sugar. There is much more than weight at stake when you are insulin resistant. The remedy for people who are insulin resistant is a diet restricted in carbohydrates. The crux of the Atkins diet is a limitation of carbohydrates in all of its forms. The foods restricted on the Atkins plan include simple sugars (like cookies, sodas and sweets) and complex carbohydrates (like bread, rice and grains). Even carbohydrates that are considered healthy, such as oatmeal, brown rice and whole wheat bread, are restricted on the program. The diet has you restrict your carbohydrate intake to less than 40 grams a day. This will put your body in a state of ketosis. While in ketosis, your body will burn fat as fuel. According to Dr. Atkins&#8217; research, the ketosis state will also affect insulin production and it will prevent more fat from being formed. Your body will begin using your stored fat as an efficient form of fuel, and you&#8217;ll lose weight. Another benefit of the Atkins plan is that ketosis will end your cravings for carbohydrates. If you&#8217;ve been living on a carb-heavy diet, you may have found that you simply cannot get enough carbohydrates. With carbohydrate restriction and ketosis comes a reduction in carbohydrate cravings. People who have been on the Atkins diet for some time report that they do not crave carbohydrates as they once did. Although the initial phases of the Atkins diet are rather strict, the program teaches you to restore balance to your diet in the long run. People who use the diet slowly reintroduce minimal amounts of carbohydrate into their eating until they find a comfortable balance between their health and carbohydrate use.
